Job vacancies in Malta - how to job hunt effectively

If you’re planning a new direction in your career, trawling through job vacancies in Malta can be a full-time job in itself. It definitely pays to approach the process strategically. Here are five ways to maximize your job search.

Have different versions of your final CV ready

Your CV needs to speak the language of the industry you would like to target so you’re going to need more than one version to target different vacancies. It’s a good idea to tweak it to create several versions to suit different job opportunities. Bear in mind that employers want to hear how you can meet their specific needs so take the time to tailor your documents accordingly. Having them on hand will put you in a better position to jump on opportunities as soon as they arise

Once you’re happy with your CV, don’t forget to create a profile on job hunting portals as well as sending it to recruitment companies to register with them.

Recognize that job hunting is a job in itself

This becomes more complicated if you’re looking for something new while you’re still employed. However, if you’re currently not employed, you should approach this as you would any job – dedicating several hours a day to your job hunt. From going through job vacancies to networking, filling out applications, and creating the best version of your CV, simply set a schedule for what you’re going to do each day, and then stick to it – just as you would follow any daily task list when employed.

Network extensively

Many employers list open positions online so spending some time on the internet when looking for work is key. At the same time, however, don’t make that your only means of searching. This is the time to make use of your network of contacts and ask the people you know if there are any openings at their companies. Doing so might unearth opportunities you might not have considered but which may appeal.

Know what you want

It’s worth drawing up a checklist of things you are looking for in a new position and things you don’t want to deal with. This will help you narrow your search and identify those jobs that are worth applying for. Think about the three or four most important aspects of the next job you get and start by only submitting a resume for those that meet most of your criteria. This can help you avoid wasting time applying for roles that aren’t right for you.

Understand what you’re worth

Most job vacancies don’t include salary information, which is why it pays you to go into your job search with a strong idea of what sort of salary you can command based on your industry and work experience. There are plenty of online resources that will help you calculate your worth, so do some digging and come up with a salary range to work with. A good recruiter will also guide you and give you an idea of salaries in Malta.

Finally, do remember that the right job is out there, and you will find it. These tips will simply ensure that your job search is more effective and help you land the right job to continue building your career.
