Ceek job tips: work smart, not hard

No time for lunch, too much work, not enough hours in the day – we’ve all been there. Sometimes it seems that no matter how hard you work; the load just never gets any lighter.

One factor that many people tend to forget when it comes to their workload is that you have control over how it’s done. Working smart is simply about making sure that you are taking a more efficient route to your destination.

Here are some Ceek tips on how to work smart:

Plan strategically

Time management is a popular buzzword, but the reason it’s so popular is that it works. Managing time is all about managing priorities. Ask yourself what do you absolutely need to finish?

  1. Define the task
  2. Give yourself a realistic time frame
  3. Focus on just this one particular task until complete

Top Tip: Advising colleagues that you are unavailable will help avoid endless interruptions. There are also some really useful productivity apps that will help you plan ahead.

Control your environment

With hot-desking and open offices becoming the new norm, we know it can sometimes get a bit too loud, particularly when you need to focus.

Some noise-cancelling headphones are a great option for when you really need to be in the zone. You might also want to consider changing your work environment to a quieter space. By reducing the office background noise, you will be able to remain even more focused.

Be the change

If you work in a managerial role and have the authority to implement certain changes, we urge you to do it. Ask your team what their needs are in terms of working smarter. From 10-minute mood boosters to quieter spaces, or even the flexibility to work from home, there are a number of things you can do to make everyone’s work-life a little bit easier.

You could also suggest some reading material for your employees or do some in-house training on how to work smarter. Popular techniques include Getting Things Done by David Allen, The Pomodoro Technique by Francesco Cirillo, and Zen to Done by Leo Babauta.
